Community gardens — plots of land available to anyone for the purpose of gardening — are becoming much more popular these days, and one has started in Harrisonburg!
The Port Road (AKA Port Republic Road) Community Garden measures about 1/3 acre and is located at the corner of Port Republic Road and Boyers Road. This piece of land is owned by Christ the King Episcopal Church in Harrisonburg. There are 65 (10′ x 15′) plots open for free to all. Many folks live in homes without enough space for a garden, so this is a great opportunity to be able to grow fruits and vegetables despite their lack of outdoor space.
