We are so excited to have the accomplished and incredibly talented artist, Brenda Hounshell, display her artwork in the Wilson Downtown Gallery for the months of October and November. We so enjoyed having her last year, and are excited to see her new works this year! Make sure to stop in and see why we love her artwork so much!
About the Artist:
Brenda Hounshell is a water media artist who resides in Harrisonburg, Virginia. She graduated from James Madison University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Art. Her concentration of study was in drawing and design. In recent years she has adopted watercolor as her primary medium.
All of Brenda’s subjects are drawn from everyday surroundings. Some of her most successful paintings have resulted completely by chance while going about everyday activities. A plastic re-sealable bag containing rinsed grapes, a colander of beets and a bowl of foil-wrapped candy have all made their way into her paintings.
Over the last two years, trips to the nearby James Madison University Arboretum and the University of Virginia State Arboretum have sparked her interest in the texture of bark, patterns of tree branches and reflections of trees in water. The colors nature offers along with her interpretations of the colors are explored in her most recent work.
She is also a signature member of the Baltimore Watercolor Society and the Virginia Watercolor Society.
