The Friendly City Dance Room is stepping into downtown Harrisonburg! Their new space is at the corner of S. Main Street and E. Market Street on historic Court Square. They are celebrating their grand opening on March 9th. Phillip Fusaro and his wife, Erin, wanted to promote community, collaboration, and their love of partner dance.
For more information and their calendar of events and classes, check out their website at www.friendlycitydanceroom.com. Phillip and his wife Erin were kind enough to show me around their beautiful new space and answer my questions.
Can you share a bit about your background and what inspired you to open up a dance center?
I have been doing partnership dance for twelve years, and teaching for five. I have always loved it! Dance has inspired many unique friendships and has helped me a lot to stay healthy in my mind and body. I wanted to share partnership dance with Harrisonburg in an accessible way, so I decided to open up the dance room.
What types of classes will you offer?
We offer personal lessons for individuals and couples, these are the best way to enjoy dance for your own self. We offer community classes, these are the best way to enjoy dance with other enthusiasts. And we offer community events and dance parties, this is a great way to authentically make your dancing your own in a social environment.
What are you most excited for in your new space on Court Square?
My wife, Erin, and I are very excited to have this fantastic location on the historic court square to be able to promote community through the art of dance in the heart of a wonderful town.
Anything else you’d like to add?
We believe in building community, we do that through partnership dancing, and we believe it’s an essential activity in this digital age to enjoy real experiences face to face with real people. And partnership dance is one of the absolute best ways to do that, as it offers community, connection, and health for everyone who enjoys it.
