We're excited to welcome local artist Susan Bruney to the Wilson Downtown Gallery for February and March for her show entitled...
"Travels Reimagined"
Artist statement:
I am passionate about art and travel! In recent years I have found a way to combine both in my work. Visiting distant lands and photographing the majesty of nature, as well as the beauty of historical architecture, inspires me to “reimagine” those places through my artwork. By the juxtaposition of photographic images with painterly surfaces, I am creating a unique look. In many of my canvases I combine one or more digital images, resulting in a new composition, which I then enhance with heavily textured acrylic paints and various handmade papers. I invite you to immerse yourself into the color, texture and details contained in these scenes of “reimagined places.”
About the Artist:
Susan Bruney is an award-winning multi-media artist who is inspired by her love for travel photography and passion for painting. She has found a way to incorporate both in the unique works she creates. Her “reimagined” pieces are intended to capture the essence of a particular place, combining photographic details with the tactile surfaces of heavily applied acrylic paints.
Originally from the Midwest, Susan earned a BA and MFA in painting. She then went on to spend many years in a nonprofit management career, which took her to the metropolitan areas of Chicago and Washington D.C. After retiring to the Shenandoah Valley five years ago she was happily able to return to her first love of making art.
Susan’s work is on display at the CoArt Gallery in Staunton where she is a member and currently serving as Board President. Her work can be seen at the Shenandoah Valley Art Center in Waynesboro, where she is also a member of the board.
Her photographs and mixed media works can be found on her website at: www.susanbruneyart.com
